Artist, Laura 'Laralei' Ballor created the character Zoe Moon in the early 1990's. She was woven in and out of songs and launched upon the alternative music scene in Los Angeles through the bands "The Waifs" and then "bud". Through Laralei, Zoe toured the underground and recorded for Clive Davis, Arista, BMG, and some truly dark and groovy independents. She shared the stage with David Bowie, Elton John, Beck, Sonic Youth, Hole, ...the list goes on.
In 1993 a design company was established for Zoe, where Laralei could create one-of- a-kind angel boxes in her downtime. Upscale boutiques clambered for them and a celebrity clientele began collecting them: Emilio Estevez, Paula Abdul, Sara Michele Gellar, ...to name a few.
In the 1990's, a reality show started following the band around, "bud: the adventures of the abductees". Zoe went into hiding and Laralei began writing the feature film "Beauty and the Monster Boys".
By the year 2000, the rock opera was ready to begin shooting. The first actor cast was the one to play Zoe Moon. For the next three years the true story of Zoe and Beauty was filmed and edited. The film features 81 actors and musicians and is awaiting release. You can preview it on DVD.
Inspired by the years of eclectic stage garb and the elaborate costuming of film, Zoe was launched into yet another art form in 2004: Fashion.
